I saw a speaker last week and thought, “That’s so going in my blog!”

My blog I’m required to have for the class that required me to go to the speaker…

But really though, it was pretty good.

The speaker was Bill Frakes, reknowned photographer for Sports Illustrated. He was in Omaha multitasking as usual: he had to shoot the Nebraska State Wrestling Championships, speak at Creighton and sort of plug Apple’s Aperture software. He showed a variety of slideshows and video of his work. One I really enjoyed was his piece “Kings of Arthur.” It was about a six-man high school football team in rural Nebraska. He used soundclips and video and pictures of the town to make it seem like you were really there in the small town. It was more than athletic pictures, it was a story about small town life. I loved the sound. We heard clips of them practicing, fans clapping, trucks driving. I had never seen anything like that before.

I’m so relieved to be done with ctonian for the semester. I can’t believe I made it actually. 17 semester hours and all that assigning and designing stuff. it’s good to be done. now I can focus on the 15 page paper for minorities studies and my two theo papers. oh and my 24 page print design.. looks like a library weekend.

This viral website made by CBS to compliment the great television series “How I Met Your Mother”. You would have to had watched two episodes (Ted Mosby: Architect and The Bracket) to understand, but the premise is as follows: The womanizer Barney, played brilliantly by Neil Patrick Harris, sleeps with a woman but plays off that he is this other character, his friend Ted Mosby, and leaves her. That woman turns out to be crazy and then makes a website ^^^ warning other women to stay away from him.

Anyway, the background song for the website tells the story. It’s 20 minutes long and it’s amazing. It goes from her singing about her hate for him, then her love for him, then her asking him to come eat dinner with her parents. In minutes 15-17, you get the feeling like when you’re high. I suggest listening to this in the background if you’re going to be on the computer for 20 minutes instead of listening to your usual iTunes library.

Last night, Jones Soda Co. and boco (A specialized product company representing the Jones Soda Co.) graciously sent our staff a pack of their new, delicious, not-quite-an-energy-drink-but-looks-like-one-drink called GABA.

The drinks are marketed towards college-students. ‘Focus + Clarity’ is their tag line and I have to say that it works. Normally we slave away at producing the paper until 2 a.m. or later. But after my two cans of GABA, I was done with my pages and out of the newsroom only a little after 10 p.m! It may have to do with the myriad of ads our ad manager sold, taking up space, OR it could be this new mystery drink. Who knows?

GABA comes in four flavors. The Nectarine Tea-Juice was our favorite. They all have some sort of tea, about 20 grams of sugar and less than 100 calories. And they all have something called Inverted Cane Sugar. What is that? Sugar flipped upside down?

The GABA, or gamma-aminobutyric acid, infused drink has just been released here in the U.S. It is based on popular food and beverages in Japan that have some form of GABA, a neurotransmitter, in them. To me, it wasn’t just like the other sugary, hyper-creating, bad-smelling energy drinks. It was a bit more sophisticated and toned down. Call this the red-wine of energy drinks.

GABA is supposedly coming to Nebraska by semester’s end (at least that’s what the press release said) so if you’re quite not getting all that finals studying in, try this new concoction and ‘get your focus on.’

last night I was laying around in my living room watching the end of SNL, which kind of sucked other than the ‘biiiiiiitch please’ blogger girl, when I got a couple happy birthday texts during the 12 a.m. hour. then today I check my facebook wall and it’s flooded with hb posts. oh and I got some random voicemails (ahem) cuz I left my phone in my room all day doing my technology fast hah.

the point is that if I was born just ten years earlier, birthday wishes would be totally different. no texts, no wall posts. maybe it’s just because I’m home right now, but seven people actually told me happy birthday face to face. interest.

oh and a girl in print design says this is “like the worst age ever”.

This week South Park had a show that made fun of Kanye West. Everyone in the world loved this mediocre joke about fishsticks, except the rapper, who didn’t get it.

they even had this song at the end of him embracing his new identity, modeled after his hit, “Heartless.”

now the best part is that Kanye himself blogged about the episode. (woah caps lock)

I think it’s cool that he recognized his big ego and is trying to get better. it’s actually endearing that he said he used it to build his esteem when no one believed in him. lastly, he also said the writers are probably nice people and thanked them for drawing his crew.

so alike. haha. I still love kanye’s music, even tho his ego can be blown sometimes.

Kings

they had a marathon of all the eps shown so far (four) last night on the SciFi channel. it’s basically an alternate world where modern kings rule every country. this country, Shiloh, is ruled by this king, Silas who is based on the biblical Saul. the main character is a young soldier who has risen in rank named David, based on the biblical David…doh.

I actually get the connections because I’m in Old Testament studies this semester, even though it’s not my favorite class.. I thought I would be done with religion classes after high school but I haaaaaad to come to Creighton ugh. but my professor makes it bearable.

anyway, Kings is a really good concept. it’s shot more like a movie than a television series. and the cast plays the characters brilliantly. I really hope this lasts more than a season, but I’m not expecting too much because NBC moved it to Saturday nights, which will probably kill it. either way there’s eight episodes left and I’m sure there’s still some good stuff to be seen.
